Vavrek Architects is a commercial architect firm established In 2005 based in Northwest Indiana that believes in relationships, good design, practical solutions, enriching communities and environmental stewardship. Here's some of the key principles we work by:
Communicative. At the core of our business is our relationships built upon years of open communication and trust. In fact, most of our work comes from referrals from long-term clients, contractors, and consultants. Our communication style is personable, down-to-earth and receptive. It all starts with listening to our client’s goals and then collaborating with them to develop a clear vision and a concrete plan to execute it. This requires open communication throughout the entire design and construction process, not only with our clients, but also with our consultants and contractors, to ensure a smooth process from pre-design through construction.
Flexible. In a continually changing business environment, we adapt quickly and respond with the information and resources needed to complete projects that vary widely in size, scope, and complexity. Our team works cohesively and efficiently, supported by a network of suppliers and distributors to help us employ right-size technologies for each project. This flexibility gives our clients a comprehensive and single-source team capable of coordinating and managing their projects from concept to completion.
Innovative. Today’s most difficult challenges in design and construction require innovative and unique approaches. We leverage cutting-edge technologies to improve workflow and find innovative solutions for each project. Some of these technologies include 3D modelling, cloud transfer between clients and consultants, PDF review and mark up software, and construction administration workflow software. In addition, we employ energy- and material-saving innovations wherever possible, saving our clients on energy and construction costs while offering them value-added marketing and community-outreach opportunities.
Accurate. Unlike many other architects, we think of design in terms of constructability. This means that drawing are developed based on how the project is actually going to be built. As a result, we have a reputation for user-friendly drawings that make everyone’s job easier, more predictable and straightforward, particularly in the construction phase. This all begins with a proactive approach to design — asking a lot of questions up front, anticipating and then addressing potential issues and, only then, developing detailed drawings. Until the job is done, we remain fully engaged and committed throughout the construction process to answer questions and provide more direction as required.
Today, Vavrek Architects has evolved into a small, passionate team of professionals working in a creative environment where each individual is encouraged to develop their own unique talents and expertise. With a cumulative experience of more than 22 years, Thomas has worked on a variety of building types ranging from renovation projects to multi-million dollar buildings including schools, criminal justice facilities, office buildings and retail buildings. Thomas’ professional work ethic is a combination of a desire to strive for excellence in design and a devotion to guide a project through to its completion in the most expedient manner possible. Tom delivers a full range of skills that one would expect from an architect who has overseen all phases of building design and construction. Mr. Vavrek holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Design) from Ball State University. He is a registered architect in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan, a member of American Institute of Architects, is NCARB Certified and LEED Accredited Professional. He is also member of Whiting/Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce and an Advisory Member of Historic Preservation Committee of Whiting.
Pat Morasan brings both a technical and creative background to the firm, holding a degree in engineering from Purdue. Prior to joining the team at Vavrek Architects, Pat served as a Project Engineer at Federal Signal Corp. as well as Field Engineer for the Eastman Kodak Company. On the creative side, Pat applies her graphic and web design coursework from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to designing and maintaining the Vavrek website and overseeing marketing communications. Since 2005, Pat’s primary role is managing the business side of the firm, handling all administrative and clerical office responsibilities. Ms. Morasan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and an Associate in Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.
Thomas Underwood joined Vavrek Architects in July, 2007, lending a strong technical background and work ethic to the team. His primary role is assisting in the development of construction documents and helping out with field work. Thomas also provides support with the maintenance of office computers, the installation of hardware and software, and setting up new equipment.
Rachel brings us experience as an project manager and architect’s assistant. Her educational background includes support for construction administration on a wide range of projects. She is outgoing, professional and keeps the lines of communication open with both clients and contractors. In addition, Rachel is putting her drafting skills to good use on developing construction documents as well as conducting field work. She has a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering & Management Technology and an Associate of Science in Architecture Technology from Purdue University North Central.
